Items needed:

  • Large piece of cardboard
  • Pleated lamp shade
  • 7″ diameter mirror
  • Small can of contact cement
  • Mirror adhesive
  • Hot glue and stick
  • 1 finishing nail
  1. Separate the inside part with the top and bottom  rings of the lamp  shade from the outside pleated part
  2. Measure the height of your lamp shade.
  3. Taking your large cardboard, draw a circle the diameter of the height of the lamp.
  4. Apply a heavy amount of contact cement inside the circle you have drawn.
  5. Allow the glue to be tacky by allowing a few minutes.
  6. Apply another heavy coat of contact cement and allow to be tacky.
  7. Taking the pleated  part of the lamp shade, place it on a table and press the center in so that it fans out.
  8. Keep your hand on the lampshade and gently pick it up with your other hand under it and place it on the glue applied circle.
  9. Place a number of books on it to keep it in this state and allow it to dry.
  10. When dry, remove the books and cut off the excess cardboard.
  11. Take it outside and apply 3 to 4 coats of your preferred spay paint, making sure you paint inside each pleat.
  12. Allow to dry thoroughly and using a ruler measure 3″ from the center and make marks in a circle using a magic marker.
  13. Put some mirror adhesive in the circle you just marked off and after removing any small paddings behind the mirror, place it face up on the adhesive, using the marks you made in step 12 as a guide to keep the mirror centered.
  14. Place a book on the mirror and allow adhesive to dry.
  15. When dry, turn the back of the sunburst and measure 3/4″ from the edge and at a place that the pleat does not touch the card board, cut a small triangular hole and reinforce the hole with a little hot glue.
  16. From the hole, hang your sunburst mirror from a small finishing nail nailed in at about 45 degrees to the wall.
  17. Enjoy!
